Frequently Asked Questions About Gutters

Will Gutters Cause Ice Dam’s?

No, seamless gutters do not cause ice/dams. Significant amounts of money have been spent trying to solve the ice/dam problem. Ice dams occur when snow buildup melts during the day and refreezes when temperatures drop overnight. Snow melt on the roof is assisted by heat-loss through the attic. The water from the snow melt then refreezes when it reaches the cold surface over the soffit, where it begins to form a ridge of ice. After several days of this melting-freezing cycle, the ridge of ice can become significant enough to retain water on the roof behind it. Ice dams are typically the result of inadequate insulation and/or ventilation. Properly installed insulation will reduce the heat-loss into attic space from living-space, however, ventilation is the most often overlooked factor. Keeping the attic-space well ventilated will maintain a cool dry underside of the roof. This will discourage the melting of the snow on the roof from any heat-loss. A properly insulated and ventilated attic will not only prevent ice-damming, it will save money in heating and cooling costs.

There are other instances when areas of roofs are shaded and other areas are exposed by the sun. The snow melts when exposed by the sun and water runs down the roof to the areas that are shaded and freezes. As stated before, the ridge of ice can become significant enough to retain water on the roof behind it and cause leaking into your home.

Why Should I invest in Seamless Rain Gutters?

The comfort of being able to enter and exit your home without getting soaked is the most obvious reason for getting rain gutters. But the advantages go much further than simple convenience. Let’s start from the bottom. Properly installed gutter systems will direct rain water away from the buildings foundation where it may leak into the basement/crawl space, or cause damage to the foundation itself by causing it to heave or settle. Rain gutters will prevent damage to landscaping, steps, decks, and walkway pavers by eliminating the “sheet” of water that falls from your roofline. The damage and staining caused to stucco, masonry, siding, doors, thresholds, and garage doors due to splash-back can be eliminated with a properly installed gutter system. The next benefit, until recently has been harder to recognize. When most people picture rain gutters, they see the old galvanized gutter with rusty bottoms and hanging sections, or plastic sectional gutters with pieces missing and leaking seams. Now, with the help of the seamless gutter machine, and Alt’s Seamless Spouting LLC superior installation, Aluminum and Copper gutters make for long-lasting, attractive gutter system that will complement and protect your home or business for years to come.

1. What are seamless gutters?
Seamless gutters are one piece gutters manufactured at your home. They are custom fit to your home. They are far superior than sectional gutters bought at home improvement stores. Seamless gutters do not have in-line seams, which always fail. Seamless gutters are made of a non-corrosive aluminum that will last for years.

2. How are seamless gutters supported?
Seamless gutters are installed and supported by two key components. The first is Raytec Hangtite Hidden Hangers. Raytec hangers are snapped into the seamless gutter and are used to support the weight of the gutter and the flowing water. The hangers are rated to withstand 260lbs. The second component is an expensive fastener called a Wood Grip Screw. This 1 1/2", ceramic coated screw is specifically designed to fasten aluminum to wood. When installing copper gutter we use stainless steel screws so not to cause

3. Are my new rain gutters warranted?
